PREFACE. One of the most prevalent emblems of the Scottish Rite is that of the Double-Headed Eagle. Mentioned briefly in comparison to the white-lambskin apron of the Craft Lodge, the symbol of the double-headed eagle is perhaps one of the most ancient emblems in Scottish Rite, having been represented for thousands of years in many of the worlds cultures. The double-headed eagle is the emblem of the thirty second and thirty-third (and highest) degrees of Scottish Rite Freemasonry. There exist a multitude explanations of the meaning of the two-headed eagle, from the mundane (it's a heraldic device) to the fantastic (it's the devil, I tell you!).

The story recorded on these cuneiform cylinders clearly proves that the double-headed eagle of Lagash is the oldest royal crest in the world. It was in use some years before the exodus from Egypt and more than years before the building of King Solomon’s Temple. THE DOUBLE-HEADED EAGLE. The double-headed eagle is probably the most easily recognizable Masonic symbol in the world, even more important than the Square and Compass/Rule. They look like two eagles, but they are not. They are the Phoenix Bird of Ancient Egypt.

It spreads its wings to give you flight. It looks back to see where you have been, and looks ahead to see where you are going. That helps each Freemason to know where he is. May the Double Headed Eagle's shining light of virtue guide and guard you as you continue your Freemasonic journey through this life. Degree Summaries. The double-headed eagle on the cover of Morals and Dogma. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on Decem , Albert Pike is asserted within the Southern Jurisdiction as the man most responsible for the growth and success of the Scottish Rite from an obscure Masonic Rite in the midth century to the international fraternity that it became.

This book was purported to be a work of 16th and 17th century Rosicrucian adepts. Pike found much of the material in the book significant, and in particular one of the diagrams to be of a highly suggestive nature regarding the Double-headed Eagle and its association with the Stone of the Philosophers.
