I'm a huge proponent of "reading is reading". What I mean is that parents should give credit to whatever literature their kids are most interested in, especially if it gets their kids excited about reading. Yes, many parents may roll their eyes at a "video game book," but as Danica Davidson points out in this guest post: don't be quick to jump to conclusions. Barney And Friends (TV Series), Mother Goose says Final Words are "I'm in the Book".

In Bye-Bye Binky, a smiling toddler narrates her transition from a crying baby comforted only by her binky to a girl who can ask for what she needs. She marks her transition to "big kid" by passing her binky along to another baby. Being dropped off at childcare or cared for by a baby-sitter means saying good-bye to Mom or Dad—and for many toddlers, bye-bye is a big deal.
This gentle book helps ease the transition with simple rituals: hugs and kisses, a big wave, a deep breath, and the confidence to seek comfort with the new caregiver or other children.
Emberley, Ed. Bye-Bye, Big Bad Bullybug. This book is delightful. Not that I want to over-use that word, but it's just a fun little book that I think is perfect for one-on-one reading aloud.
(As opposed to sharing with a classroom group or library story-time.) The action starts even on the title page with three itty-bitty baby bugs.
For children accustomed to a crib’s nestlike confines, a traditional bed looks about as inviting as an expanse of tundra. This book’s crib-bound hero starts off with a declaration: “I’m a big boy now.” But when it comes time to say “Bye-bye, crib,” he demurs, since that big bed might be a monster in s: "BIG KIDS DON'T NEED A BINKY." or so says the big girl in this cheery orange book by Maria van Lieshout.
BYE-BYE BINKY is actually the second book from Ms. Lieshout this year. The first was on that other area that can vex both big and small -- potty training. Like I USE THE POTTY this book approaches the topic from a celebratory and positive theme/5(10).
There's nothing overt or explicit, but the amount of innuendo and the emphasis on high-school romances and celebrity crushes would probably earn this musical a PG rating now.
There's some innuendo that will go over little kids' heads -- teenage girls swooning, screaming, and literally fainting in the presence of an attractive singer. A little boy works up the courage to go to sleep in a "big bed" for the first time in this picture-book from author Alison McGhee and illustrator Ross MacDonald, bidding his old crib goodbye.
Frightened at first, imagining the bed as a monster about to eat him, worried that he will fall out, he is reassured by his hovering parents/5(26). Join little ones across the globe as they learn to say “Bye-Bye” to nursing and “Hello” to the fun that awaits.

This book was created by a nursing mother for nursing. As is true for the other books in this series, the section for adults at the end of the book is excellent.” — Joyce’s Mystery and Nonfiction Book Reviews with some Non-fiction too.
" This is a great go-to series when children are dealing with scary feelings that they don’t understand and have a difficult time communicating.
